In a season that celebrates at the ballpark or in the backyard, get 10 tips for making healthier choices

Eating Healthy All Summer Long

Whether you’re headed to a grad party, hosting a barbeque or catching a baseball game, a little bit of planning can help you stick with nutritious habits. Try these 10 tips this summer:

  1. Eat before you go to an event, so you don’t overdo it at the outing
  2. Hydrate before, during and after the event
  3. Look for options that are purely or largely comprised of fruits or veggies—summer brings a bounty of fresh produce like corn on the cob
  4. Eat vegetarian for the event and choose a veggie burger or veggie kebobs
  5. At the ballpark seek out options where protein is the primary star—look for things like pork chop on a stick, shrimp skewers or grilled chicken
  6. If you’re heading to a potluck, bring a nutritious dish
  7. At a BBQ, fill up on veggies first—think crudités and salad
  8. If you’re grilling in the backyard, change things up by throwing fish or a turkey burger on the grill
  9. Focus on favorites, and try to limit them to once in awhile
  10. During or after an event, get in some physical activity—play outside with your kids, head out for a run or get a sweat session in at the gym
