• For youth entering grades 9 - 10 in fall 2016
  • Learn through a challenging, inclusive and fun experience
  • Three week session

The Leadership Training program is a hands-on experience in leadership designed to teach participants the skills, attributes and strategies that are important traits of exemplary leaders and counselors. Participants learn through a challenging, inclusive and fun experience.

During the three-week session participants will:

  • Develop basic leadership skills
  • Develop new friendships
  • Enjoy team building activities and field trips
  • Receive training in behavior management, risk management and critical thinking, supervision and characteristics of children, character and asset development, conflict resolution, positive discipline, water safety, First Aid & CPR
  • Observe YMCA staff
  • Take part in/learn to lead program activities and field trips.

Following the second week, our trainees put their newly acquired leadership skills to practical application as they are placed into Summer Power programs with trained YMCA staff. Here, they assist staff, help lead games and activities and aid in the supervision and management of a group. Successful completion of course may open up volunteer options.
