Name: Connor White

Hometown: Minneapolis, MN

How do you stay busy from September-May?
Right now I’m a Senior at Washburn High School in Minneapolis.  I’m a year-round athlete participating in Cross Country Running, Nordic Skiing, and Track & Field.  When I’m not running, skiing, or doing school work, I like to bike around and discover Minneapolis with my friends.  I try to go up north when I can, usually with my family.

How long have you been involved with Warren?
This last summer (2014) was my sixth year at Warren, and my first on staff.  I was a traditional camper for two years before doing Short Border, Long Border, and being a CIT.

What activities are you involved in?
This summer I had the pleasure of being involved with Boating and Athletics activities.  It was great being out on Half Moon Lake everyday no matter what boat we were on, and Athletics activity was a blast with all of the games we got to play.  In 2B, I also was also involved with Mind over Matter (MOM) activity.

What age group do you work with?
Although I had both a Senior and Cub cabin this summer, in my activities I mostly worked with the cubbies.  I enjoy all age groups, but it’s a lot of fun to (responsibly) goof off with the younger campers all day.

What is one piece of advice you would give a first year camper?
Don’t worry if you’re going to camp alone without any friends.  You’ll make friends right away with your cabin mates and other campers in your activities.  Plus, all the counselors you’ll meet will be open and eager to get know you.

Why do you enjoy working at Warren?
I love the opportunities that Warren gives kids.  Going to camp is a fantastic way to disconnect from our ever-increasing, technology ruled world.  Working at YMCA Camp Warren is all the fun of being a camper, but I get to have it as an adult!

Favorite camp song?
The Counselor Song; however long or short.

Favorite all camp game?
Captains Coming.  It’s fast paced so you get a lot of games in.

Favorite camp counselor moment?
My favorite camp counselor moment was playing cards with a Senior cabin I had.  When the whole cabin gathered in the evening or at rest hour, I knew we were in for some intense games.

Anything else we should know about?
If you’re on the fence about coming to camp, come.  There’s no better way to spend a summer than up on Half Moon Lake, I’ve never had a bad experience here.
