Hi all! My name is Devin Hanson and I am the director at Day Camp Manitou, which is joining the Ihduhapi umbrella. I have been with Camp Manitou for 6 years and have participated in YMCA camping my entire life. I grew up attending Day Camp Kitchigami and Camp Miller – both through the Duluth YMCA. I then was a camper at Camp Warren followed by many years working in the overnight camps prior to moving to Day Camp Ihduhapi in 2010 as the director. I now have passed my love for the outdoors on to my two daughters, ages 9 & 7, as they are avid YMCA campers attending both day and overnight camps.
Camp Manitou is located in Monticello, just 35 minutes northwest of the Twin Cities. We operate within the Bertram Chain of Lakes Regional Park – 1,200 acres of land consisting of four lakes, acres of undisturbed shoreline, natural habitat, and oak forest. This summer will be the 65th summer of operation, making Manitou the oldest day camp in the YMCA of the Greater Twin Cities. While we may have been around a long time we do have some amazing new facilities on the property. These include a two level high ropes course, a pool, splash deck, and slide, two pavilions for activities such as arts & crafts and cookouts.
One great new feature of Manitou is that we open our pool and splash deck to the public on the weekends. People are invited out to enjoy some time in the water and by the pool during the following:
- June 17 – August 19
- Fridays 4:30-8:00 p.m.
- Saturdays & Sundays 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
- Admission $7 per person or $25 /family (max of 6)
- Wright County residents, Y Members, Seniors 65+ and children 2 and under $5 or $25 /family (max of 6)
Other recreation opportunities at Camp Manitou and Bertram are the mountain bike trails, canoeing, hiking, picnic spaces, and a public swimming beach. Be sure to check us out this year!
