Who You Will Meet at Icaghowan

Because we know staff is the most important part of a camp experience, we take great care to hire and train qualified, enthusiastic staff. We look for leadership skills, prior experience working with children, decision-making capabilities, respect for the environment and safety awareness.

All staff members are certified in CPR and First Aid. Waterfront specialists are certified lifeguards, and Trip Leaders are certified in Wilderness First Aid.

My career with the YMCA began in 1995 as a CIT at YMCA Camp St. Croix. A long time Croix camper and passionate outdoor enthusiast, I fell in love with motivating a new generation of campers. I continued on Staff at Camp St. Croix through 2001 where I had the opportunity to lead the Leadership Development Program that had been so formative in my life. Upon graduation from the University of St. Thomas, I spent 2 years as an AmeriCorps Volunteer teaching Environmental Education in midcoast Maine. For the past 12 years, I have been a nonprofit Executive in the St. Croix Valley, most recently with Big Brothers Big Sisters.

My husband Matt and I have 3 children whose summers have been spent camping due to the passion of their parents. I believe that camping inspires children to rise to the occasion, to believe in all that they are, and to trust that they can accomplish more than they may have believed. I am honored to be able to share the camping experience with your children, and feel blessed to have this opportunity to inspire wonder and awe in all campers at YMCA Camp Icaghowan. I believe in the mission of the YMCA and will do my best to honor tradition, history, and the four core values in the programs offered at Icaghowan.

Courtney Danis

Program Director Courtney Danis

My connection with the YMCA of the Greater Twin Cities started at a young age, I was 8 years old when my family first ventured up for a home school weekend at Camp du Nord for my first Y camp experience. I progressed to finding myself as part of the Leadership Development Program as a high school student at du Nord and developed my passion for teaching and camping. After high school, I attended Campbellsville University, KY where I played basketball for four years and majored in Mathematics and Secondary Education. Throughout those years I spent 3 summers working on summer staff at YMCA Camp du Nord and the later 3 summers as the Assistant Director at the resident camp, YMCA Camp St. Croix in Hudson, WI. After graduation, I went and lived in South Africa for three months teaching in a school there. I found myself back in the mid-west continuing my passion for teaching and the outdoors as an Environmental Education Instructor at Camp St. Croix. Most recently, I found myself in the scenic mountainous area of the YMCA of the Rockies in Estes Park, CO as the Youth Programs Director overseeing the Day Camp Program for nearly 4 years.

Camping has been in my blood and a passion since I was young, and I believe that it allows for people of all ages the opportunity for personal growth and the ability to experience the awe and wonder of the natural world. I am extremely excited for the opportunity to be back in the Twin Cities area and a part of the Camp Icaghowan team and community!

Aaron Raivo-Lynch

Property Manager - Aaron Raivo-Lynch

Aaron has a strong history in camping and is excited to be joining the Icaghowan team. He spent many Summer's at camp St. Croix; ranging from camper to Assistant Camp Director. He is a Minneapolis Patrick Henry graduate, and graduate of the University of Minnesota (B.S. Parks, Recreation & Leisure Studies). Aaron also, recently celebrated the birth of his 5th niece!
