Summer 2020 Updates
We know our Day Camp Streefland campers are anxiously awaiting information on summer 2020 programming. The decision around whether or not to open this summer or run a modified program weighs heavily on us. Ultimately, we will rely on evidence-based recommendations from the CDC, American Camp Association, and Governor Walz. The CDC will release guidance for camps in early May and our decision to open or modify our operations will follow shortly thereafter. This guidance, along with the recommendation from the MN Department of Health, will be critical for us in determining if camp will be able to operate in a safe manner this summer.
Since mid-March, we have been busy developing plans to ensure we make the safest decisions for summer, and addressing necessary contingencies around risk and safety, programming, trips and facility cleaning protocols. The safety of our campers and staff remains our top priority.
As decisions are finalized, we will be updating this page on our website. For now, please reference our FAQs. More information soon!
Day Camp like many Y programs, is about learning skills, developing character and making friends. But few environments are as special as camp, where kids become a community as they learn both how to be more independent and how to contribute to a group as they engage in physical, social and educational activities.
With Healthy Living experiences woven throughout, camping teaches self-reliance, a love for nature and the outdoors, and the development of attitudes and practices that build character and leadership. The Day Camp experience is built on the Y’s values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. Y counselors are dedicated to making sure camp is an amazing experience for every camper. Accomplishments are marked with special beads for every camper to collect.
Activities include swimming, canoeing, archery, fishing, environmental education, cookouts, arts and crafts, and more.
