Teen Specialty Camps

Developing leadership qualities and abilities are important life-long ingredients. Our leadership camps develop the whole person — spirit, mind, and body — through a variety of service projects, hands-on activities, and team building exercises. Our leaders of tomorrow begin with our youth of today!

Teen Quest

Entering grades 6 – 8 in fall, 2017

Member Participants: $225/week
Non-Member Program Participants: $250/week

Weeks of June 12 – September 1 (No program July 3 – 4, fee prorated)

Adventure Quest is an exciting day camp program geared toward teens that want total outdoor fun! This program develops valuable life skills such as effective communication, team building, cooperation, and conflict resolution. You will participate in a variety of activities including swimming, canoeing and kayaking, high ropes course, environmental education, bowling, a service project, an all-day field trip, and more!

Teen Climbing (NEW!)

Entering grades 6 – 8 in fall, 2017

Member Participants: $250/week
Non-Member Program Participants: $275/week

Weeks of July 17, July 31 and August 14

Test your strategy and skill through new fun challenges! Each day focuses on a new element or challenge including knot tying, safety and team work. This camp is designed to build self-confidence and teach valuable skills while enjoying unforgettable adventure. Spend a day at Camp Streefland’s high ropes course.

Wednesdays campers will participate in an exciting full day rock climbing experience at Taylor’s Falls! Campers will return to Camp Streefland at 5:30 p.m. and can be picked up from camp between 5:30 and 6 p.m.

Leaders-In-Training

Entering grades 7 – 9 in fall, 2017

Member Participants: $295/two weeks
Non-Member Program Participants: $320/two weeks

Two-Week Sessions: June 12 – 23, June 26 – July 7, July 10 – 21, July 24 – August 4, August 7 – 18 and August 21 – September 1 (No program July 3 – 4, fee prorated)

Rise to the challenge in Leaders-in-Training Camp and discover your leadership qualities. You will learn and develop camp skills needed to lead camper activities, as well as responsibility through activity planning. You will have opportunities to shadow counselors and assist staff in their camp activities. There will also be plenty of time to hang out with friends – new and old. Come experience camp from a whole new perspective!

Teen Service Learning Camp

Entering grades 7 – 9 in fall, 2017

Member Participants: $225/week
Non-Member Program Participants: $250/week

Weeks of June 26, July 31 and August 14

Grow their leadership and teambuilding skills, while bolstering self-confidence through giving back to the community. Earn volunteer hours and improve your skill set while actively participating in traditional camp activities like swimming, canoeing and kayaking, and high ropes course. Service projects take place at camp and in a National Park. You will receive a certificate with the number of service hours completed. It’s a win-win for you and the community!

Lifeguard Leadership Program (NEW!)

Entering grades 7 – 9 in fall, 2017

Member Participants: $295/week
Non-Member Program Participants: $320/week

2-Week Session: July 31- August 11

Test your mettle in Lifeguard Leadership Camp. Leadership training will include in-water skills specific to life guarding and swim instruction, safety training and team building. You will shadow lifeguard mentors and participate as a junior team member. This program focuses on leadership and building confidence while preparing you for aquatic certification classes. You will have an opportunity to practice skills while assisting with swim lessons and working with experienced lifeguards in the pool and at Lake Kingsley. There will be plenty of time for traditional camp activities.

Junior Counselor Program (NEW!)

Do you love working with kids in a camp setting? Here’s your chance to take a leadership role! Junior Counselors are assigned to a group and assist the Senior Counselors in leading and carrying out a variety of Day Camp programs. Junior Counselors help campers acquire feelings of high self-esteem, self-worth and competence in an outdoor setting. Previous experience in the LIT program or working with children is required. Candidates will be selected through an application and interview process. This is a volunteer position. Please contact streefland@ymcamn.org to apply.
