What is Chart Your Own Destiny?

Chart Your Own Destiny is a gala hosted by the YMCA of the Greater Twin Cities. It’s a celebration of who we are, what we do, and what we can do. In short, it will be an unforgettable evening that you won’t want to miss!

The gala is a two-part event: the evening begins with a reception, dinner and program for our VIP guests. After dinner, the Y Party is an opportunity for all to explore our space, learn more about our programs, and experience the Y like never before. Friday, September 28, 2018 from 5:30 pm to 11:30 pm.

The Douglas Dayton YMCA at Gaviidae Common (651 Nicollet Mall, Minneapolis MN)

How much do tickets cost?

The Chart Your Own Destiny dinner is sold out, but Y Party tickets are available for $75. After September 14, Y Party tickets will be $100.

Is my ticket purchase tax deductible?

A portion of your ticket purchase is tax deductible. After the gala, you will receive an acknowledgement letter for your files.

How do I buy my ticket?

You can register online now.

Will you sell tickets at the door?

Yes, but we recommend that you purchase your ticket in advance. Tickets at the door will cost $100.

I bought a ticket but something came up. Can I get my money back?

Unfortunately, tickets are nonrefundable. However, you are welcome to give your ticket to someone else so they can party with us!

I’m a member of the press. Can I get a press ticket?

We reserve a handful of Y Party tickets for qualified press. If you would like to attend as a member of the press, please send your press credentials to Joan Schimml to confirm your press ticket.

What time does the party start and end?

Chart Your Own Destiny kicks off at 5:30 pm with a VIP rooftop reception for sponsors and individual dinner guests, followed by a dinner at 6:45 pm. Individuals with Y Party Only tickets are invited to join us at 8:00 pm as the party ramps up with music, activities, and drinks.

So what time should I arrive?

If you have a ticket to our dinner, you are invited to a VIP reception on the 5th floor and rooftop deck starting at 5:30 pm. Dinner starts at 6:45 pm, but we recommend arriving early for the VIP reception as it will include small plates from the award-winning chefs of Travail Kitchen.

If you have a Y Party Only ticket, you are invited to join us starting at 8:00 pm. Guests with a Y Party Only ticket will not be able to check in until the Y Party begins at 8:00 pm, so there is no advantage in arriving early.

How do I get to Gaviidae?

The Douglas Dayton Y is located on the 3rd-5th floors of Gaviidae Common at 651 Nicollet Mall in downtown Minneapolis. We encourage the use of public transit or rideshare services to get to and from the event.

Gaviidae is located just two blocks from the Nicollet Mall light rail station (served by the Green and Blue Lines) and is within a few blocks of several Metro Transit bus lines. Check out the Metro Transit trip planner to find the best route to Gaviidae via Light Rail or bus.

What about parking?

  • Valet parking will be available for all dinner guests at no charge.
  • Public parking is available for $6 after 4:00 pm in many nearby ramps: Gaviidae Common garage (61 S 6th Street, enter on 6th Street), City Center ramp (10 S 7th Street, enter on 7th Street), IDS garage (80 S 8th Street, enter on Marquette), NorthStar Center (110 S 7th Street, enter on 7th Street).
  • Meter parking is available on S. 6th St., S. 7th St. and S. Marquette Ave.

What should I wear?

Will there be a place for me to check my coat upon arrival?

There will be a complimentary coat check at the gala.

Will there be food?

Of course there will be food! We are thrilled to welcome the award-winning chefs from Travail Kitchen for the Chart Your Own Destiny gala. Dinner guests will enjoy small plates followed by a plated dinner and dessert, and Y Party guests will have the opportunity to try hors d’oeuvres as they explore the Y.

What about drinks?

Dinner guests will enjoy an open bar, and Y Party guests will enjoy complimentary beer and wine. Nonalcoholic options will also be available throughout the event.

How can I get updates about the event?

Visit the Chart Your Own Destiny website and RSVP to the Facebook event for updates. You will also receive emails with additional information in the weeks leading up to the event.

What will I do during the event?

You’ll have the chance to navigate through a handful of Y experiences, meet members of the Olympic Gold Medal and U.S. National Champion Men’s Curling Team, try your hand at curling on our unique iceless curling rink, sample cocktails and hors d’oeuvres from the award-winning chefs of Travail Kitchen, experience exciting entertainment including appearances by members of the Harlem Globetrotters, eat s’mores as you take in the skyline views of downtown Minneapolis from our rooftop deck, enjoy music from local musical legend Paul Peterson, and much more. We’re sure you will find many ways to have a good time!
