Kids practice core basketball skills such as ball handling, defense, offense, rebounding and shooting. As they develop their athletic talents, children also build character, values and confidence through teamwork and discipline. See the Forest Lake Y sports schedule

Each eight-week session is $65 for members and $90 for non-members.

Age-based classes will vary by session.

Age 3: 30-minute class
Class introduces basketball basics, encouraging exploration within a safe and healthy environment. Kids work on beginner concepts such as dribbling, defense and shooting mechanics.

Age 4 through grade 1: 45-minute class
Class strengthens beginning basketball skills, preparing kids for the next level with work on ball handling and manipulation, defense and shooting mechanics.

Grades 2-8: 60-minute class
Class builds knowledge of the game through team play, developing individual skills including passing angles, defensive skills, offensive roles and shooting.

Tips and preparation for parents and guardians

  • You can also register in person at Member Services 
  • Have your child bring water and wear active wear and tennis shoes
  • Each child will receive a Y T-shirt
  • The Y will provide all necessary equipment
  • Arrive on time
  • Have your child use the restroom before class begins
  • Remain in the building throughout the entire class
  • Show a photo ID or driver’s license as you enter the building if you’re not a member of the Y

Each eight-week league is $100 for members and $125 for non-members.

Age-based leagues for grades 2-8 will vary by session. Leagues guarantee a minimum of 8 practices and 6 games throughout the session.

All-Y leagues

We base team placement on the current grade level of participants. All-Y league teams play other teams throughout the YMCA of the Greater Twin Cities.

Advanced Sports Training for basketball is only available through the Eagan and New Hope Ys.

All training options are customized with age- and skill-appropriate skills. Register kids in grades 3-12 for Advanced Sports Training at any time.

Private training for one-on-one attention

  • $85 for one hour
  • $245 for three hours
  • $480 for six hours
  • $950 for 12 hours

Small-group training for groups of up to six kids

Flexible hours can be used anytime within a calendar year:

  • $40 for one hour
  • $110 for three hours
  • $210 for six hours
  • $410 for 12 hours

Monthly plans require a commitment of a set amount of time, and allow you to pay fees on a monthly basis:

  • One month—unlimited hours (two hours daily maximum) for $325
  • Three consecutive months—12 one-hour sessions for $150/month, $450 total
  • Six consecutive months—30 one-hour sessions for $158.33/month, $950 total

  • Team training boosts performance for your group of seven to 12 kids—$125 per child for a 75-minute session
  • Clinics range from a few hours to multiple days for your group of 10 kids—$15 per child for a one-hour session
  • Camps are for your group of at least 25 kids—$30 per child for a three-hour session

We offer free basketball skills clinics so your child can check it out and get a feel for the basics. There’s no need to register ahead of time, just come to the clinic and you’ll be asked to sign in.
