During the school year, hundreds of thousands of children in Minnesota do not have access to before- and after-school programs and are left unsupervised. In the summer months, children who lack quality learning experiences tend to lose academic skills over the school break and these losses can equal two months of a grade level each summer.
The Minneapolis Beacons and St. Paul’s School Success programs transform public schools into active youth centers, offering free enrichment programs after school and in the summer that encourage youth to become lifelong learners and leaders. Watch how Beacons has helped Daniel turn things around.
We also partner with Building Educated Leaders for Life (BELL) and the YMCA of the USA to offer the Power Scholars Academy, an enrichment program that closely tracks personal and academic achievement outcomes. See the Power Scholars Academy in action.
The Harold Mezile North Community YMCA Youth & Teen Enrichment Center is the nation’s first youth-only YMCA, offering engaging and innovative programs that work to build healthy habits early while combating conditions that contribute to opportunity gap. Explore the programs at the Youth & Teen Enrichment Center.
And through partnerships with schools and low-income housing facilities, the Y provides after-school and summer programming—including help getting to and from school, homework help and fun activities. Learn about the advocacy program at Maple Pond Homes.
