Decisions and Updates for Summer 2020
For months we have been planning and gearing up for summer. In efforts to maintain the safest possible summer programs, our teams have been monitoring evolving guidelines from the following:
- State Government and Department of Health
- American Camp Association
- YMCA of the USA
We have made a number of summer decisions in the recent weeks and will keep this site updated as things evolve.
At this time, with modifications that align with recommended guidelines, we are planning for a safe and adventure-filled summer at day camp. More detailed information will be shared later this week.
Day Camp Manitou
Due to low enrollment, we have made the difficult decision to cancel programming at Camp Manitou for this summer.
Although Camp Manitou programs are being cancelled, the YMCA offers summer experiences through other Day Camp locations, Family Camps, Nature Power, Summer Power, Summer Uproar and Childcare programs. We hope that you will be able to join in one of these programs based on what works best with your schedule.
For your Camp Manitou fee, you will receive a full refund (including your deposit) and no action is necessary on your part.
We are happy to confirm our YMCA Family Camps intend to re-open for Summer Family Camp. We are confident that even with adjusted programming, your experience at camp will be safe, memorable and just what you need; time with your family in nature! See each camp’s website for registration and program information.
We look forward to our Summer Family Camp sessions starting on June 11. Sessions before that date are cancelled.
Summer Power, Summer Uproar and Summer Sports
We are planning for a safe and fun-filled summer in our Summer Programs that include modifications that align with recommended guidelines. More detailed information will be shared this week.
Overnight Camps, Wilderness Camps and BOLD/GOLD programs
With the ever-evolving situation around Covid-19, we feel we are unable to offer the safe and enriching experience our campers were looking forward to this summer. The YMCA Camping Team has worked hard to plan for every contingency; however, the uncertainties are still too great.

For these cancelled summer programs, you will receive a full refund (including your deposit) and no action is necessary on your part. However, you also have the following options:
- Deposit: Turn your refund into a credit on your Y account for a future 2020-2021 program.
- Donate: Instead of a refund, you could make it a donation to support the continued work of your YMCA Camp.
- Refund and donate: Do both. Consider taking a partial refund and making a partial donation.
If you would like to pursue one of the alternate options, please fill out our online form by June 1. After Tuesday, June 2, a full refund will be applied to your account and no action is necessary on your part. Please contact our Customer Service Center at firstname.lastname@example.org to assist with any cancellation questions.
How can I help the YMCA Camps and Summer Programs?
We are beyond grateful to the members of our community – our volunteers, campers and participants, alumni and staff - who have recognized the challenges crises like this can pose to a human services organization regardless of their own hardships they may be facing. For those that are able and interested, please make a gift here. THANK YOU for your support of families during these uncertain times.
All of us here at the YMCA wish good health and good spirits to everyone in our community.
