The YMCA offers American Safety and Health Institute (ASHI) CPR training. Certifications and training classes are offered in two formats:

  • Traditional classroom
  • Blended—lessons are completed online and skills are practiced in class

ASHI BLS for the Professional Rescuer (formerly CPR Pro)

2-year certification: Full course, classroom

The ASHI BLS training provides basic life-saving training including CPR, the use of an AED, and the relief of choking for adult, child and infant patients. The goal of this skills-based training is to help students develop the knowledge, skills, and confidence to respond in a medical emergency. 

To achieve certification, participants must score 70% or better on the written exam, and demonstrate all knowledge and skill objectives. BLS certification is valid for two years.

This class can be taken by individuals needing initial certification as well as individuals needing renewal.

ASHI blended learning CPR allows students to work independently on theory through a series of informational videos and tutorials. Participants then present what skills they learned in a hands-on class. Skills assessed include external chest compressions, rescue breathing using a mask or shield, primary assessment for unresponsive person and CPR as a single provider. All skills are demonstrated for adult, child and infant.

To achieve certification, participants must score 70% or better on the written exam, and demonstrate all knowledge and skill objectives. CPR Pro certification is valid for two years.

The ASHI CPR PRO Renewal training program allows students who are currently certified to renew their certification. This training reviews core skill objectives covered in the CPR PRO Initial training program including CPR, the use of an AED, and the relief of choking for adult, child and infant patients. The goal of this skills-based training is to help students develop the knowledge, skills, and confidence to respond in a medical emergency.

To achieve certification, participants must score 70% or better on the written exam, and demonstrate all knowledge and skill objectives. Participants should bring proof of current certification (through ASHI or another national organization) with them to class. CPR Pro certification is valid for two years.

To achieve certification, participants must score 70% or better on the written exam and demonstrate all knowledge and skill objectives. Emergency Oxygen Administration certification is valid for two years.

The ASHI Emergency Oxygen Administration Initial training program helps students develop the knowledge, skills and the confidence to provide first aid care with emergency oxygen for all suddenly ill or injured victims. Participants must possess current certification in CPR and First Aid (through ASHI or another national organization), and should bring proof of current certification with them to class.

To achieve certification, participants must score 70% or better on the written exam, and demonstrate all knowledge and skill objectives. Emergency Oxygen Administration certification is valid for two years.
