YMCA Gathering Provides Education, Enrichment and Engagement at State’s Largest Event for Adults Ages 65 and Up on October 10

Minneapolis, MN – The YMCA of the Greater Twin Cities, a leading nonprofit dedicated to strengthening communities through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility, will host its 12th annual Gathering to celebrate seniors living healthy lifestyles on October 10.

Nearly 1,000 seniors ages 65 to 100 will arrive at the Minneapolis Convention Center on October 10. They will attend educational sessions to learn about developing healthy habits, managing arthritis pain, utilizing technology for independent living, navigating Medicare and more. There will be opportunities to get active by engaging in activities like line dancing and mindful movement. Participants will also visit with representatives from dozens of local organizations that offer products and services for healthy and active aging.

The 12th annual Gathering will conclude with a luncheon program, including a talent show featuring Y members; presentations of Thrive awards to seniors who have inspired and strengthened their communities through exercise, volunteering and social interaction; as well as entertainment from Minnesota-based musician Clark Adams.

The Gathering is sponsored by Summit Orthopedics, SilverSneakers by Tivity Health, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota, Best Buy Assured Living, Matrix Fitness, Medica Foundation, Octane Fitness and the Earl E. Bakken Center for Spirituality and Healing, University of Minnesota.

“The Y is committed to serving until all can thrive in each stage of life, and that includes offering health and wellness options tailored to seniors,” said Glen Gunderson, president and CEO of the Y. “The goal of the Gathering is to celebrate our seniors and help them live a healthy, connected and fulfilling life.”
