St. Paul, MN – The Doulas Dayton YMCA at Gaviidae, a leading nonprofit dedicated to strengthening communities through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility, will celebrate YMCA Day and the grand opening of a vibrant, state-of-the art facility located in the heart of downtown Minneapolis on Tuesday, March 6, 2018.

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey has proclaimed March 6 YMCA Day to recognize YMCA members, volunteers and employees for all of the great contributions they make to the community so all can thrive. Along with Mayor Frey, Y and community leaders will be on hand for the ribbon cutting celebration. There will also be special entertainment and appearances from the Minneapolis Aquatennial Royalty, Crunch of the Minnesota Timberwolves, Viktor of the Minnesota Vikings, Sneakers of the YMCA and more. The Y will be sharing a time capsule that includes original 1890 YMCA documents, youth letters to the future and symbolic memorabilia from the many diverse communities in Minneapolis.

“The Y has served the Minneapolis and greater Twin Cities community for 162 years, and we look forward to continuing to engage our diverse and dynamic neighborhood for years to come,” said Glen Gunderson, president and CEO of the YMCA of the Greater Twin Cities. “Together we can change lives in so many ways through innovative programs and activities that help all to thrive in each stage of life.”

Attendees will have the opportunity to tour the new Dayton Y located at 651 Nicollet Mall and experience firsthand how the Dayton Y will strengthen the community with unique opportunities ranging from getting fit using state-of-the-art virtual reality equipment, reducing stress through integrative health and healing practices in the George Wellbeing Center,  and participating in experiential learning and simulations on equity, diversity, inclusion and global realities, and much more.
