The YMCA offers American Safety and Health Institute (ASHI) and Safe Sitter® child and babysitting safety training.


ASHI Child and Babysitting Safety

The ASHI Child and Babysitting Safety training program is designed to focus on supervising, caring for, and keeping children and infants safe in babysitting settings. The program provides fundamental information in the business of babysitting, proper supervision, basic caregiving skills, and responding properly to ill or injured children or infants.

This class is for ages 11-15 years. There are no pre-requisites for this course, but CPR/AED and basic first aid certification are recommended.

To achieve certification, participants must pass a written evaluation and perform required skills competently without assistance. Child and Babysitting Safety certification is valid for up to two years.

Safe Sitter®

Safe Sitter is an up-to-date and well-rounded youth development program with a medical basis. The pediatrician-developed program teaches young babysitters everything they need to know to keep themselves and the children in their care safe. 

The nationally-recognized program includes child care techniques, basic first aid, rescue techniques (like choking, CPR and first aid) babysitting as a business, and online and cellphone safety. Participants will receive The Official Safe Sitter® Babysitter’s Handbook.

This class is for ages 11-14 years. There are no pre-requisites for this course
