With another summer of fun in the books, we are happy to see some of our facility improvements still standing and melding into the woods of the north. With the start of the summer season we saw the McKenzie screen porch addition and the Deer platform cabin well received. The tent drying shelter was also a nice addition to the Outdoor Activity Center as the weathered tents stayed nice and dry out on their lines. Sticky s’more nights, campfire songs, and spectacular views were found at the renovated Peace Pointe all summer long.

Throughout the summer, the maintenance staff feverishly worked on road washouts from heavy rains, trail clearing, and scrubbing toilets, while still finding some time to work on new projects. Ring Rock Island, an overnight destination, can be found past the channel leading into greater Burntside Lake and will be ready for the adventurous folks looking for a new place to discover. Another new opportunity to cook pizzas in a wood fired earth oven will soon be available for camper use in Pine Pointe Village.

We look forward to a busy fall season with continued facility renovations. Thor’s bathroom will receive a remodel, allowing for wheelchair accessibility. The current Director’s Cabin, soon to be known as Skipper’s will also see a makeover, with kitchen and bathroom updates. The largest project of the season will be a duplex, which will house the year-round staff starting next summer. We are excited to continue updating our facilities and look forward to sharing them with the du Nord community!
