Overview of age guidelines

All ages are welcome at the Y. To ensure that everyone has a safe and enjoyable time at the Y, there are guidelines for activities kids and teens can participate in—with or without parents or guardians.

  • Must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times while at the YMCA
  • Must be accompanied by an adult in the water, unless they are able to pass an appropriate swim test—if they pass the swim test, a parent doesn’t need to be in the water, but does need to remain in the pool area
  • Kids age 6 and under are not allowed in the fitness center at any time
  • Must be supervised by a parent or guardian (16 and up) that is in the building, but does not have to remain in the same area—except for the indoor track and fitness center, where a parent must accompany, and in the water, unless they are able to pass an appropriate swim test—if they pass the swim test, a parent does not have to be in the pool area, but does need to be in the building
