Overview

Kids who participate in week-long Summer Sports at the Y discover so much more than their athletic abilities. They build character, develop self-confidence and create healthy relationships through positive competition. Kids of all skill levels and abilities can choose from a variety of sports to explore this summer.

Participants will be bussed from drop-off sites to summer sports locations. Site is at Robbinsdale Middle School.

Cost

Cost varies by sport. See specific sport information for cost.

One time, non-refundable deposit of $50 per week per child includes a program T-shirt and will be applied to the weekly fee. Weekly fee includes all field trip admissions and program supplies.

Weeks of June 12, July 10, July 31 and August 28

Member and Non-Member Participants: $75/week

Kids learn the basic skills and techniques of soccer and improve on those skills as they learn to play every position. Our staff works through a curriculum with kids on ball-control, passing, trapping, shooting and defense. Participants have the option of bringing their own shin guards and plastic cleats.

Entering grades 1 – 6 in fall, 2017

Weeks of June 12, June 26, July 24 and August 21

Member and Non-Member Participants: $75/week

Kids will develop and improve their tennis techniques and skills: forehand, backhand, serving, anticipating the ball and play strategies. They’ll play a set or two as they learn the rules and unique scoring. Participants are encouraged to bring their own racquet. Tennis balls are provided.

Weeks of June 19 and August 14

Member and Non-Member Participants: $75/week

Participants develop and improve skills: throwing, catching, pitching, hitting and running bases.

Weeks of June 19 and July 17

Member and Non-Member Participants: $75/week

Learn the ins and outs of basic and advanced cheer and dance moves. Finish the week participating in a choreographed routine put to music. Families can watch the performance live at the end of the week.

Weeks of June 26 and August 28

Member and Non-Member Participants: $75/week

Kids learn the proper techniques of running, pacing, jumping and throwing. They will work on personal bests and learn about track and field greats and their success.

Entering grades 1 – 6 in fall, 2017

Week of July 5 (No program July 3 – 4, fee prorated)

Member and Non-Member Participants: $45/week

Participants learn about proper grips, stances and alignment for setting up a great shot. We will practice on a local golf course where young golfers will have an opportunity to work with golf course staff to improve their driving, chipping and putting. Bring your own golf clubs; but clubs are available if needed. Bussing provided from summer sports site.

Weeks of July 10 and August 7

Member and Non-Member Participants: $75/week

Kids learn about the sport of volleyball including: rules, communication skills, serving, setting and passing. Players work through a progression of skills while learning the importance of team work.

Member and Non-Member Participants: $75/week

Players will progress through the skills of basketball: dribbling, passing, shooting and defensive skills through drills.

Member and Non-Member Participants: $75/week

Kids play every position and learn the basic offense and defense skills including catching, passing, capturing the flag, punting and kicking off a tee. Our focus is on teamwork, sportsmanship and learning the game without contact or tackling.

Member and Non-Member Participants: $75/week

Kids will have fun and improve their fundamental and advanced stroke swim skills including start and turn techniques, as well as instruction on diving. The Y’s certified instructors use a nationally recognized learn to swim curriculum.
