This class focuses on functional cardio movement and strength patterns designed to increase flexible strength for daily living activities. Functional Fitness was developed by Kris Wayne, the Generations Fitness Specialist for the Metropolitan Minneapolis YMCA. Functional Fitness concentrates on undoing what occurs during the aging process and daily life. Participants use weights, the stability ball, BOSU®, risers, step (optional), and bands.

  • Level: All
  • Kids ages 10 – 14 may attend with a parent or guardian
  • Teens age 15+ may attend unaccompanied by an adult

A Typical Class

Class begins with lightweight warm-ups then moves into working core muscles, upper body strength training and lower body exercises. Class ends with cool-down exercises and muscle stretches.
